The short answer for the Netherlands, as of 25 October 2026
If you live in the Netherlands, the exchange most tutorials are filmed on is simply closed to you, and the venues that do accept you look different from the screens in those videos. Binance stopped serving Dutch users in July 2023 after it did not obtain a Dutch registration, and the Netherlands remains on its List of Prohibited Countries. Bybit and OKX still work with people in Europe, but through separate European companies with their own licences, their own product lists and their own leverage caps.
Keep two questions apart, because people in forums mix them constantly. The first is whether a particular exchange accepts residents of your country — that is the exchange's own decision, written in its terms. The second is what European rules allow a firm to sell to you here. An exchange can block you even where the rules are relaxed, and the rules can be strict even where an exchange's list does not name your country.
What the European rules change for you
In February 2026 the European regulator ESMA told firms that perpetual futures look a lot like the leveraged products Europe already restricts, so the same rules probably apply: lower leverage, a risk warning you have to read, the position closed automatically before your money runs out, and no bonuses for trading. In practice that is why a European account asks you questions about your experience before it lets you trade, and why the leverage offered is far below the numbers in international marketing. If you want to see what leverage actually does to a result before you meet those caps, start with what leverage means in crypto futures.
The rules ESMA talks about land on the companies offering these products, not on you as a customer — but that is exactly why so many of them close the door or hand you a European version with fewer markets. Note what the statement does not say: it does not name the Netherlands, the AFM or any exchange, it gives no leverage numbers, and it does not declare perpetual futures banned. The picture for the whole bloc is on our page about crypto futures in the EU.
Binance, Bybit, OKX, Hyperliquid and Binance Wallet: status for Dutch residents
Look at the status word first, then the note: "does not accept residents" and "sent to a separate European company" end very differently when you try to sign up. One means there is nothing to try; the other means you will get an account, just not the product you saw in a video.
| Venue | Status | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Binance | Not available | The Netherlands is on the List of Prohibited Countries; Binance stopped serving Dutch users in July 2023 after it did not get a Dutch registration. |
| Bybit | Via a local company | EEA residents are moved to Bybit EU (Austrian MiCA licence); derivatives are not among its licensed services. |
| OKX | Via a local company | OKX Europe offers X-Perps in all 30 EEA countries: 5-year contracts with perpetual-style funding, up to 10x, after KYC and an appropriateness test. |
| Hyperliquid | Not on its banned list | Not named in Hyperliquid’s Terms (they block the US, Ontario and sanctioned territories). |
| Binance Wallet (Aster) | Not available | No Binance account is possible for residents, so the tab is closed too. |
Status for residents, from the exchange’s own documents and the local regulator’s actions. “Not on its banned list” does not mean trading is legal where you live: check the local law above, and the app gives the final answer after KYC.
statuses checked 25 Oct 2026 in the exchanges’ own documents, Binance, Bybit, OKX, Hyperliquid, Binance Wallet (Aster), ESMA (24 Feb 2026).
Binance is the clearest case: no account for residents of the Netherlands, which also closes the Binance Wallet Perpetuals tab, since that tab lives inside a verified Binance account. Bybit moves European residents to Bybit EU GmbH, which holds an Austrian MiCA licence — futures and similar leveraged contracts are not among its listed services, so a Dutch Bybit account is not the futures terminal from the tutorials. OKX routes European users to its European company, which offers X-Perps in all 30 EEA countries: contracts with a five-year expiry, up to 10x, opened after identity checks and a test about your experience. While you hold one, a payment passes between buyers and sellers at set times, the same way funding works on a normal perpetual — sometimes you pay it, sometimes you receive it. How often it is charged is in the contract details in the app.
Hyperliquid is a different kind of entry. It is an on-chain venue where you connect a wallet instead of registering, and its Terms name only the United States, Ontario and sanctioned territories — the Netherlands is not listed. That is not a confirmation that trading there is open or legal for you; it only means the document does not mention your country. Read the terms yourself before you do anything, and remember that the route you take to a market does not change what European rules expect from firms serving ordinary customers here.
A false address is not a workaround. Binance's terms say plainly that users must not try to get around restrictions, including by hiding where they are. The cost usually arrives later: verification, a withdrawal review or a routine check can freeze an account built on the wrong country, with your money sitting inside it. If a venue is closed to you, treat it as closed.
Money in and out, and an account you already have
If you still have an old Binance account from before the exit, the shape of the 2023 wind-down was: no new Dutch users from 16 June 2023, and from 17 July 2023 existing users could only withdraw. Nothing in Binance's current documents suggests that has reopened. So the sensible move is not to plan new trades there, but to check the account, export your trade and transaction history while you can, and move any remaining balance out.
With the European companies that do accept you, what you can deposit with — a bank transfer in euros, a card, or crypto sent in from a wallet — depends on which European company your account ends up with, and you will see the real list in the app after you verify your identity. Expect the experience questionnaire too, and the usual documents described on our page about KYC on a crypto exchange. If you want the general mechanics of how availability is decided rather than the Dutch specifics, read which futures exchanges are available in my country, and for the method of checking any country yourself, the countries hub.
What to do next
Lists like these change without notice, and both the exchanges and the regulators say so themselves. Open the exchange's own restriction page, then let the sign-up flow decide after verification — that flow, not a blog post, is the real answer for your situation.
Meanwhile, the part of futures trading that actually decides whether you make or lose money has nothing to do with which country you live in. Position size, leverage, where the stop-loss goes, what fees and funding take out of a result — all of that you can learn and practise before you have an account anywhere. That is the sane order: understand the mechanics first, sort out access second.
Is Binance legal in the Netherlands?
The practical answer as of 25 October 2026 is that it hardly matters, because Binance does not accept residents of the Netherlands. The country is on Binance's own List of Prohibited Countries, and Binance stopped serving Dutch users in July 2023 after failing to get a Dutch registration. Keeping an account open with a foreign address breaks Binance's terms and risks a freeze.
Can I use Binance Futures in the Netherlands by hiding my location?
No, and we will not help you try. Binance's terms say users must not try to get around restrictions, including by hiding where they are, and the check usually comes at the worst moment — during verification or a withdrawal review, when your balance is already on the platform.
Does Bybit offer futures to Dutch residents?
People living in the EU and the wider European Economic Area are routed to Bybit EU GmbH, which holds an Austrian MiCA licence, and futures are not among its listed services. So a Dutch Bybit account is not the same product as the global Bybit futures terminal you see in tutorials. Check what your own account shows after verification.
What are OKX X-Perps and can I trade them from the Netherlands?
X-Perps are OKX Europe's contracts for the EEA: a five-year expiry, up to 10x leverage, available in all 30 EEA countries after identity verification and a test about your experience. While you hold one, a payment passes between buyers and sellers at set times, the same way funding works on a normal perpetual — sometimes you pay it, sometimes you receive it, and how often it is charged is in the contract details in the app. The leverage cap and the test come from the European rules, not from OKX being cautious for fun.
Are perpetual futures banned for ordinary customers in the EU?
ESMA did not say banned. On 24 February 2026 it said these products are likely to fall under the restrictions Europe already applies to similar leveraged products: lower leverage, a risk warning, the position closed before your money runs out, and no trading bonuses. Those obligations land on the firms offering them, not on you.
What should I do with an old Binance account from before 2023?
Treat it as withdrawal-only: check the balance, export your trade and transaction history for your records, and move the funds out. Do not plan new trades there, and do not try to reopen access with a different country on the profile.
