Pre-IPO perpetuals

Can you buy OpenAI stock before the IPO, and what is the OpenAI pre-IPO price?

No — as an ordinary investor you cannot buy OpenAI shares before the company goes public. Private rounds are sold to funds and insiders, not through an app. What you can trade today is a perpetual futures contract on the OpenAI price: it follows what traders think the shares are worth, it runs 24 hours a day, and you can open one with a small amount in the Binance Wallet Perpetuals tab.

Can you buy OpenAI shares before the IPO?

Not as a normal private investor. Shares in a private company like OpenAI change hands in funding rounds and in restricted secondary deals between existing holders, funds and employees, usually with high minimums and legal paperwork. There is no public button anywhere that sells you an OpenAI share today, and anyone promising you one for a few hundred dollars should make you suspicious.

What crypto exchanges offer instead is a contract on the price. You never own a share, you never become a shareholder, and you get no dividends or voting rights — you simply make or lose money on the difference between the price when you open and the price when you close. If you want the general mechanics of how these pre-IPO contracts are built, that is covered in the guide to pre-IPO perpetuals; this page is about the OpenAI contract specifically.

The shares stay out of reach; the contract on their price is the part you can actually trade.

So what is "the OpenAI pre-IPO price"?

When people search for an OpenAI pre-IPO price, they usually expect an official number published by the company. There isn't one. The number you see on an exchange is the price of the contract — what buyers and sellers in that order book agree on at this moment, driven by news, funding-round headlines and expectations about a future listing.

The number on the screen is the price of the contract, not an official OpenAI share price and not the company's valuation. You make or lose money on how that number moves while your trade is open — that's all it is for. And because very little of it is anchored to published financial results the way a listed company's price is, it can move quickly and far in either direction.

Where the OpenAI contract trades today

The route most beginners can reach is the Perpetuals tab inside Binance Wallet. It's a wallet you create inside the Binance app and control yourself — there is no separate site or account to open. The prices and matching come from Binance's partner Aster. One thing to do first: the wallet has to be backed up before the Perpetuals tab will let you trade, so finish that step in the app before you plan a position.

Some companies in the Pre-launch list have two pairs: one where your deposit is USDT, one where it is USD1 (another dollar stablecoin). If there is more than one pair, they are not equally busy, and that is the first thing to look at. Each pair also shows its own maximum leverage badge and its own funding interval, so check both on the pair screen rather than assuming they match. The table below lists where this company's contract trades and how much volume each venue does in 24 hours, so you can compare sizes — everything described on this page is the wallet version, and the buttons here lead there.

At this price the market values the company at roughly $1.43T: price × 1 billion shares (the count in the Binance contract terms). This is arithmetic, not an official valuation; the share count at the IPO may differ. Prices differ a little between venues: each has its own order book and price source. Liquidation and profit are counted on each venue’s mark price.

Read it column by column before you trade: pick the pair with the larger 24-hour volume, make sure you hold the coin that pair uses as your deposit, and note the maximum leverage badge. The simplest way to see the live price is to open Binance Wallet, go to the Perpetuals tab and look under the Pre-launch group.

What it costs to hold: funding and fees in real money

A perpetual has no expiry date, so instead of settling it the exchange balances longs and shorts with a payment every few hours. Depending on the contract that happens every 8, 4 or 1 hour, and the pair screen tells you which: when the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. Only someone holding the position at the moment of the payment pays or receives it — the mechanics are explained in more detail on the funding page.

Plus means longs pay shorts, minus means longs receive. The period total is what a 1,000 USDT long would have paid holding the whole time (price changes aside); a short receives the same amount with the opposite sign.

Here is how to turn that into money. Take the current rate from the table and multiply it by your position size. If the rate is 0.01% and you hold 500 USDT, one payment is 0.05 USDT — small, but it repeats every few hours and it can flip to the other side at any time. So read the live rate and the interval before you open, and check them again if you plan to hold for days rather than hours.

On top of funding there is the trading fee, charged on the size of the trade when you enter and again when you exit. In the wallet tab the maker fee is 0% and the taker fee is small — a fraction of a percent — but the exact rate depends on the pair category, so look at the fee shown in the order window before you confirm. On a 500 USDT position you are talking about well under a dollar for the round trip, which matters far less than getting your position size right.

Opening a small first position

Keep three numbers apart in your head: your capital, the margin you lock into this trade, and the size of the position. A 500 USDT position at 5x uses 100 USDT of margin. If the price moves 2% in your favour you make about 10 USDT; if it moves 2% against you, you lose about 10 USDT plus fees and funding, so a bit under 90 USDT of your 100 USDT of margin is left — the fees on a 500 USDT round trip are under a dollar. At 5x, a move of roughly 20% against you would use up that 100 USDT — and in practice the exchange closes the trade a bit earlier than that, because it keeps a small reserve and charges fees. The price of a contract like this can jump on a single headline, and there is no published earnings report to anchor it. Set your own stop instead of waiting to see where liquidation sits.

  1. Find the pair

In the Binance Wallet Perpetuals tab, open the Pre-launch group and look for the OpenAI pairs. If there is more than one, compare their 24-hour volume and pick the busier one.

  2. Match your money to the pair

The pair name tells you which coin it settles in — USDT or USD1. Both are dollar stablecoins; just hold the right one in the wallet before you try to open.

  3. Set leverage and margin mode

Start well below the maximum shown on the pair's leverage badge, and choose isolated margin so only the money you assigned to this trade is at stake. Our guide on choosing leverage walks through why.

  4. Size the trade, not the dream

Decide the position size first (say 500 USDT), see the margin the order window asks for, and check it is money you can afford to lose. The order window shows the smallest size this pair accepts — read it there before you plan your trade, because it differs from pair to pair.

  5. Add a stop loss before you confirm

Set the level at which you accept you were wrong, and a take profit if you have a target. This contract trades while you sleep, including weekends.

The full walkthrough with screens, including creating and backing up the wallet before perpetuals become available, is on the page about how to open a trade in Binance Wallet. If you want to watch the pair for a few days first, that costs nothing — open the Perpetuals tab and just follow the price and the funding line.

What happens when OpenAI goes public

This is the fear that stops most people: that the contract is a trick that disappears the moment the company lists. The SpaceX contract is the worked example of what actually happened. Binance listed a SpaceX pre-IPO perpetual in May 2026, SpaceX listed on Nasdaq in June 2026 at $135 a share, and Binance then turned the contract into an ordinary perpetual on the listed shares — the same contract kept trading, there was no gap and nothing was closed. That story in full is on the pre-IPO perpetuals page and the SpaceX page.

What the exchange has committed to, and what it hasn't. For its own pre-IPO perpetuals, Binance says that if an IPO is postponed or cancelled it will give advance notice of any delisting and settle contracts through a transparent process, and that it may turn a contract into an ordinary perpetual once there is a reliable price for the shares themselves. It also warns that such a contract can be especially volatile right after a listing, and that the share price may never reach the final IPO price. Those statements describe Binance's own contracts — for the OpenAI pair in the wallet, read the contract rules shown in the app, since the order book there is run by Aster.

There is no confirmed OpenAI IPO date in anything we can verify, so nobody can tell you when or whether that will happen. Plan the trade on the price move you expect over days or weeks, not on a listing you cannot put in your calendar. Because the contract runs at night and at weekends while stock markets are closed, a stop loss matters more here than on a normal share — see how weekend and overnight trading works.

One last practical point: availability. Aster's terms exclude residents of, and people located in, Russia, Ukraine, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Venezuela and Syria, and Binance applies its own country rules on top. Check in the app whether the Perpetuals tab and this pair are open to you before you plan anything. Similar contracts exist for other private companies, such as Anthropic, if OpenAI is not the one you want.

What is the OpenAI pre-IPO price right now?

There is no official pre-IPO share price published by OpenAI. The number you can see is the price of the perpetual contract in the Binance Wallet Perpetuals tab, which is simply what buyers and sellers agree on at that moment. The live table above shows it together with the 24-hour volume.

How can I buy OpenAI stock before the IPO?

As a retail investor, you can't. Private shares are sold in funding rounds and restricted secondary deals to funds, insiders and employees. The accessible alternative is the OpenAI perpetual futures contract, which pays out on the price difference and never hands you a share.

Are OpenAI perpetual futures real, or do they vanish at the IPO?

They are real contracts with an order book and funding payments. When SpaceX listed, its pre-IPO contract became an ordinary perpetual on the listed shares and trading continued without a break. If a listing is postponed or cancelled, the exchange says it gives advance notice before delisting and settles through a transparent process.

What is the smallest OpenAI position I can open?

The order window in the Perpetuals tab shows the smallest size that pair accepts — read it there before you plan your trade, because it differs from pair to pair. Whatever size you choose, remember that leverage multiplies both the gain and the loss on it.

Does the OpenAI contract trade at night and on weekends?

Yes, around the clock, weekends included. That is convenient, but it also means price can move while you are asleep, so set a stop loss before you close the app.

Do I get OpenAI shares or dividends if the company lists?

No. A perpetual contract gives you no shares, no shareholder rights and no dividends. Your result is only the difference between your entry and exit price, minus fees and funding.
